A Day of Impact: The 2024 "Driving to Achieve" Walt Gutowski Sr. Golf Outing at Blythefield Country Club
On Monday, August 12th, the 2024 "Driving to Achieve" Walt Gutowski Sr. Golf Outing took place at the picturesque Blythefield Country Club. This annual event, named in honor of Walt Gutowski Sr., has become a cornerstone for the community, bringing together passionate golfers and dedicated sponsors to support the YMCA Youth Programs.
A Legacy of Giving Back
The Walt Gutowski Sr. Golf Outing has a long-standing tradition of making a positive impact on the lives of young people. The event was initially established to honor the legacy of Walt Gutowski Sr., a man known for his commitment to his community and his belief in the power of youth development. Over the years, this golf outing has grown in scale and influence, providing vital support to the YMCA and its various youth initiatives. It’s been a decade since Walt Gutowski Sr. died and a few folks have asked me who was Walt and how is he connected to the YMCA. Here’s a nice article Tom Rademacher wrote about Senior.
The 2024 Event: Bigger and Better
This year’s event was particularly special, featuring two flights of golfers, allowing more participants to take part in the day’s festivities. The lush greens of Blythefield Country Club provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with friendly competition, camaraderie, and the shared goal of supporting a worthy cause.
Highlighting the Impact
The funds raised from this event play a crucial role in supporting the YMCA’s mission to nurture the potential of every child and teen. The contributions help fund scholarships, after-school programs, summer camps, and various youth activities that provide a safe and enriching environment for young people in our community.
In previous years, the event has consistently raised substantial amounts of money, all of which directly benefits the local YMCA programs. The 2023 outing, for instance, was a tremendous success, and the 2024 event aimed to build on that momentum raising more than $100,000.
Generous Sponsors
A special thank you goes out to this year’s sponsors, whose generosity made the event possible. Their support not only helps cover the costs of organizing the event but also maximizes the funds that go directly to the YMCA’s programs.
A Day to Remember
The day was not just about golf; it was about community, legacy, and the collective effort to give back. Participants enjoyed not only a well-organized tournament but also the opportunity to connect with others who share a commitment to making a difference.
As in previous years, the event featured a mix of serious competitors and those who were there to enjoy a relaxed day on the course. The two flights allowed everyone, regardless of skill level, to participate and contribute to the cause. There were plenty of laughs, friendly banter, and moments of brilliance on the greens.

Continuing the Tradition
As we look ahead, the "Driving to Achieve" Walt Gutowski Sr. Golf Outing will continue to be a vital part of our community’s philanthropic efforts. Each year, it brings together a diverse group of individuals who are united by a common goal: to support the youth of our community through the programs offered by the YMCA.
This event is more than just a golf outing; it’s a tribute to the values that Walt Gutowski Sr. stood for. His legacy lives on through the smiles of the children who benefit from the programs funded by this outing. It’s a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together for a common cause.
