Swift Printing Halloween Activities Recap: WestSide Stride, Pumpkin Carving Contest & Office Halloween Costume Parade

This year’s Halloween festivities were a lot of fun.

The WestSide Stride unfortunately had bad weather this year… again. However, there were 10 people who still showed up and enjoyed the exercise.

The judges, Blake and Dax Slaydon, picked the green M&M as the victor.

After the 5K, the crew joined for dinner and a beer at New Holland Knickerbocker.

Did you know there are 29 places to eat on Bridge street?

The Swift Printing Grand Rapids third annual pumpkin contest was a fun one.

This year Kathy Schramski was the winner of the pumpkin carving contest. Her pumpkin had a close second, Dave was only 2 likes/comments away from the title.

On Halloween we had an optional costume runway contest. Everyone picks their song and shows off to the judges. This year there were some pretty good costumes.

JP was Velma from Scooby Doo

Kathy was Hawaiian Punch

Walt 3 was a wrestling coach

I was Leslie Knope and my son Parks was wearing a sign that said Rec.

Amy was a trail person, trying to find service in the woods.

Walt Jr. was our founder, Walt Sr. on the racquetball court.

For those of you who don’t know much about Swift Printing’s Founder, Walt Sr., let me explain. Walt Sr. loved to play racquetball - in short shorts. He was often found at the YMCA.

See nice write up on Walt Sr.

Walt Sr. would also “pad” money into scratch pads to keep them together and pass out. It’s quite a spectacle to see someone peel a two dollar bill off a stack. It always made me wonder, “Is it real money?” “Yes, it is real money,” he’d tell people. That’s what my Grandpa did. He was the heart and soul of the business.

Here’s a nice passage of what Swift Printing was like 50 years ago

The rules of the game, anyone who doesn’t dress up becomes a judge.

This year’s judges penalized Walt Jr. for passing out the two dollar bills. Haha

The judges picked Kathy’s costume, Hawaiian Punch, for the winner.

Kathy won both of the Swift Printing contests. She is retiring at the end of the year so we’re glad she was able to finish the year on top! :)

Congratulations Kathy!
