Double the Badges, Double the Donuts! Swift Printing's 9th Annual Donut Dash Announces Exciting New Partnership

Grand Rapids Police Department and Kent County Sheriff's Office join forces for a sweet cause, with proceeds benefiting both organizations.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — November 4, 2026 — Two law enforcement agencies, one community, and a whole lot of paczki! Swift Printing is excited to announce a major expansion of its 9th Annual Donut Dash, happening Tuesday, February 9, 2027, in celebration of Fat Tuesday.

For the first time in the event's history, the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) and Kent County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) will join forces for this beloved West Side tradition, with donations raised benefiting both organizations.

And while the departments are accustomed to working together, sharing donuts might be another story!

"I don't like sharing donuts with anyone!" joked Grand Rapids Police Chief Joe Trigg. "But seriously, we work closely with the Kent County Sheriff's Office every day, and this is a great opportunity for the community to see that partnership in a different light. The Donut Dash brings people together, and we're excited to share some laughs, a few paczki, and a great cause with our partners and neighbors."

Kent County Sheriff Bryan Muir echoed the enthusiasm.

"Chief Trigg says he doesn't like sharing donuts, and that's just fine with me. With my family's deep West Side roots and Polish heritage, I can assure him that we know a thing or two about paczki," joked Kent County Sheriff Bryan Muir.

"I've got a few months to prepare for this event, and I intend to take my training very seriously. Whether that involves running shoes or powdered sugar, I'm not quite ready to say. But I can promise we're coming prepared! All kidding aside, we have tremendous respect for our partners at GRPD, and we're excited to join them for a great West Side tradition, a little friendly competition, and an even better cause."

A Sweet Tradition With an Even Bigger Purpose

Hosted by Swift Printing, the Donut Dash is a free, family-friendly 5K fun run and walk through Grand Rapids' West Side, complete with paczki stops along the route. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome, whether they're running for a personal best, walking with friends, or simply showing up for the donuts.

Over the years, the event has brought together hundreds of community members, local businesses, and law enforcement officers, raising funds for the Grand Rapids Police Foundation while creating positive connections between officers and the people they serve.

This year, that mission is growing.

"At its heart, the Donut Dash has always been about bringing people together," said Jessica Gutowski-Slaydon, President of Swift Printing. "We've had so much fun supporting the Grand Rapids Police Foundation over the years, and expanding to include the Kent County Sheriff's Office just makes sense. These departments work together to serve our communities, and we're excited to celebrate that partnership in a way that's fun, approachable, and meaningful."

The event's charitable proceeds will be split between the Grand Rapids Police Foundation and Kent County Traffic Squad Community Action Fund.

GRPD vs. KCSO: Let the Friendly Rivalry Begin!

Of course, with two departments participating, a little friendly competition is inevitable. Who will bring the most participants? Who will show the most team spirit? And, perhaps most importantly, who can eat the most paczki?

One thing is certain: When our community comes together, everybody wins.

Community Partners Make It Possible

The Donut Dash wouldn't be possible without the generosity of local businesses and organizations that believe in bringing people together for a good cause.

Swift Printing is grateful to announce the sponsors and community partners already supporting the 2027 event:

  • Swift Printing

  • Bridge Street Market

  • Community Media Center / WYCE

  • Perrin Brewing Company

"This is what makes West Michigan special—businesses and neighbors coming together to support one another," said Gutowski-Slaydon. "You don't need a big budget to make a difference. Every contribution helps us create a memorable event while supporting the people who help keep our communities safe."
