RAG to Riches: Atomic Object on AI
Atomic Object, a fellow B Corp, recently hosted an event on AI, and I must say, it sparked a lot of curiosity! At first, I thought Rags to Riches, the old club from my younger days, was making a comeback—haha, imagine my mix-up! But seriously, it brought back memories of meeting someone from Florida Southern College right after I turned 18. (Where I ended up going to college.) Gosh, those were good times, and here we are 20 years later... ouch, that stings a bit, but hey, it beats the alternative!
Back to the event—Atomic Object is always doing some cool stuff. I don’t head over to their side of town often, but when I do, I come back reinvigorated about my purpose. One of my best mentors, Jeff Williams, is a managing partner there, so it feels like home.
The event was led by Jordan Schaenzle, who shared some impressive insights about Large Language Models (LLMs). He highlighted that while AI generates content, it's not necessarily factual, and LLMs don't continue learning until they're updated.
Jordan provided definitions for two terms:
Token: A single word in AI language.
Context Window: The maximum number of tokens that can be sent to a given LLM at once.
There’s so much to learn about AI, with its pros and cons. I signed up for a trial of Gemini, Google’s AI service, though one of my team members raised concerns about AI’s alignment with our B Corp mission, citing the environmental impact of the supercomputers that power these servers.
Yet, AI isn’t going anywhere, and people are investing heavily in it. Perhaps it’s like cars—they aren’t great for the environment, but we still use them while trying to find better ways to fuel them. On the bright side, the prospect of speeding up mundane tasks like editing, data entry, and pattern recognition is quite appealing.
Some of the AI tools suggested were Stack AI, Canvas, Cove AI, Chatbot, and Lama.
