WestSide Community Clean Up Grand Rapids, Michigan
This year’s WestSide Community Clean Up was a lot of fun! The weather ended up being perfect in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was the first 80 degree day of the year. According to the event organizers, there were 350 folks signed up to volunteer two days prior to the event. Then Fox17 did a story on the event and by Friday night there were 1000 people registered. Wow!
The Swift Printing team was fortunate to participate in several ways at this Grand Rapids, Michigan Community event. We donated the flyers and discounted some other marketing materials as well. I (Jes Slaydon) was on the events committee for this public event. Our band, Bridge Street Band, played at the after party. I sing in the band and my dad, Walt Gutowski Jr., plays the guitar and sings as well.
The event would not have been possible without the presenting sponsors Bridge Street Market and John Ball Zoo. Both businesses had big green initiatives launched around Earth Day. Bridge Street Market has done away with single use plastic bags and asks customers to bring their own bags. They also have reusable ones at their store for 10 cents. John Ball Zoo had a big Earth Day celebration and won a grant to help put on the party.
The event organizers Caylie Peet from The Grand Rapids Chamber and Timmothy Gillis from Rockford Construction did an awesome job putting the event on! Thank you!
I’m not sure yet on the pounds of trash collected but as soon as I know I’ll be sure to update this post.
