What Leadership Looks Like at Swift Printing: A 75-Year Legacy of Balance, Vision, and Heart
Today, I have the privilege of working from the legendary Herman's Boy in Rockford, Michigan. As I sip my coffee and crank through emails while my kids are at summer care, I can't help but reflect on what an incredible summer it's been. Like many working parents, I catch myself thinking, "I could have done more... I could have been more intentional." And while that little inner critic is swift to speak up, I know better.
Here's the truth: When you care deeply about your work and your people, it's natural to want to give 110% in every area of your life. I bring that same passion to my family that I do to Swift Printing, and sometimes I try to pack it all in. All the community events. All the fun. All the progress.
And that brings me to one of the most important lessons I’ve learned I keep learning in leadership: you can’t do it all alone, and you shouldn’t try to.

The Power of Complementary Leadership
Since my brother Walt Gutowski III rejoined the Swift Printing team, we’ve found our groove in a way that just works. I’m the dreamer, the one who sees something shiny and immediately wants to chase it—usually something fun, community-centered, or creatively bold. Walt, on the other hand, is the grounded realist. He’s practical, methodical, and incredibly focused on the essentials:
Excellent customer service
High-quality print production
Clear, transparent communication
Where I may want to run with an idea full speed ahead, Walt will calmly ask, “That’s great, but how are we going to do that?”
That push-pull dynamic is what makes our leadership strong. It’s what keeps Swift Printing running smoothly and keeps our clients coming back after 75 years in business. You need both vision and practicality. Innovation and consistency. Community and craftsmanship.

Why Strong Leadership Means Knowing Your Strengths (and Blind Spots)
Leadership isn’t about having all the answers or always being right. It’s about:
Surrounding yourself with people who balance you out.
Creating a culture that supports transparency and trust.
Holding tight to your values while remaining open to new perspectives.
At Swift, our leadership model is rooted in family, legacy, and community. I’m a third-generation printer (at heart!), and everything we do is anchored in the hard work of those who came before us. My grandpa was a pressman. My dad built this business into something we’re incredibly proud of. And now, we’re taking that foundation and building something for the next 75 years.

Community, Creativity, and Print That Makes an Impact
I believe print is still one of the most powerful tools in marketing, when it's done right. Whether it’s a direct mail campaign, beautifully branded labels and stickers, or a custom business card, print gives your brand a tangible edge. It’s not just ink on paper; it’s about communicating your values, your professionalism, and your attention to detail.
At Swift Printing, we blend high-caliber craftsmanship with small-business warmth. When you work with us, you’re not just another invoice. You’re a partner. And we want your message to make a lasting impression, on paper and in person.
Yup, Walt had a mullet. Be sure to save this photo. LOL
Celebrating 75 Years of Doing It Right
This year, Swift Printing celebrates its 75th anniversary, and I can honestly say I’ve never been more excited about the direction we’re heading. Our team is talented, our clients are inspiring, and our mission is clear: to elevate businesses through exceptional print, while staying grounded in relationships that matter.
So here’s to leadership that’s bold and balanced. To honoring tradition while chasing innovation. To pressing on with purpose and having a whole lot of fun along the way.
Thanks for being part of our journey.
And if you haven’t worked with Swift yet? Let’s change that. Drop us a line, stop in the shop, or just follow along on social. We’d love to be part of your brand’s story.
