The community we have here on the WestSide of Grand Rapids, Michigan is so cool! Valley Field/Sullivans Field is a true All American Story. The rich history this field has brought our community is one to truly admire. And now to see what a group of WestSiders have done to bring it back to life is pretty cool. We are proud to be one of the sponsors for this awesome project.

According to the timeline on Friends of Grand Rapids Parks:

“Land is transferred from Grand Rapids Public Schools to the City to create Sullivan (Valley) Field. Many baseball teams played at the field, including the American Seating Company team, the Seaters. The field was renamed Sullivan Field in 1996 to honor Bob Sullivan, a long time amateur baseball sponsor. The Grand Rapids Sullivans were a Grand Rapids-based baseball team owned and managed by Bob Sullivan and affiliated with the National Baseball Congress.”

Lots of Amazing Baseball Players such as Al Kaline, Mickey Stanley, Kirk Gibson and Dave Rozema started baseball careers at Sullivan’s Field. According to Friends of Valley Field group, there were over 70 Major League players that came up through [Valley] Field, four of which eventually became big league managers.

If you’d like to join us in sponsoring or just to learn more please check out the Fans of Valley Field facebook group and their website.
