Walt Gutowski III Unveils Unique ArtPrize Entry “Faces”
Hi ArtPrize lovers near and far!
I’m thrilled to share that Walt Gutowski III has unveiled his latest ArtPrize entry, and it’s truly something special! Titled “Faces,” this new collection features a series of eye-catching artworks that are both distinctive and dynamic. The collection includes four larger pieces, each measuring 20x26 inches, and one smaller piece at 12x18 inches. What makes these pieces stand out is that the larger ones are mounted on gears that rotate at one revolution per minute, offering viewers a chance to see the artwork from multiple angles.
Walt, known for his creativity and talent, has used watercolors and markers to bring these surreal, impressionistic, abstract, and post-modern faces to life. “I wanted to show people different angles so they can see that as the images move, more faces can be seen,” Walt explains. “I was constantly rotating the canvas while creating this collection.”
This project represents a significant step for Walt as he steps out of his comfort zone. Normally, Walt uses art as a relaxing activity, but this time he’s challenged himself to meet a deadline and push his creative boundaries. His style is influenced by Mark Kistler’s WGVU drawing show from the ’90s and his experience as a kids at a Kendall College summer camp, which played a major role in building his confidence.
Walt’s background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance, showcasing his artistic versatility. His journey reflects his belief that art can inspire others to follow their passions and see things from new perspectives. “Faces really embodies that message,” Walt says. “Through this work, I hope to show how different viewpoints can offer fresh insights.”
