ArtPrize 2.0: A Creative Renaissance in Grand Rapids with Swift Printing

For the love of artprize and swift printing

ArtPrize, the renowned international art competition held annually in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is back with a fresh format and renewed vigor in 2023. Swift Printing, a proud ArtPrize venue, artist, sponsor and vendor, is thrilled to be a part of this exciting artistic journey once again.

Swift Printing: A Stalwart in ArtPrize

Swift Printing's connection with ArtPrize runs deep. This local printshop has been a cherished venue for artists and art enthusiasts since 2015. Their commitment to fostering artistic expression is not limited to providing printing services but extends to actively participating in the vibrant local arts scene.

In the past two ArtPrize editions, Swift Printing has made a unique mark with office entries that have captured the imagination of visitors. 2021 Red Lion Vintage Neon and 2022 The History of Printing.

Jessica Gutowski-Slaydon, an owner of Swift Printing, even planned her wedding around the ArtPrize festivities in 2012, showcasing the personal and professional intertwining of art and life in Grand Rapids.

“I love ArtPrize!” says Gutowski-Slaydon. “There is something so special about it and I love to find ways we can be even more connected to it. My favorite so far (besides my wedding) is when our team creates something together.”

The Red Lion Vintage (2021) took all hands on deck not only for our Swift Team, but public office as well. A sign ordinance had an amendment created to allow the work of art on the street. See the story Casey Jones of WoodTV did for the unveiling.

The History of Printing (2022) connected the team more together in our industry and a lot of physical work was done by our production team - especially Dave Van Dam - as a pre-electric printing press was restored. Watch the press be installed here.

Every team member plays an important role and our team is very proactive. This year Swift Printing is doing a vending machine that has mystery stickers inside. The sticker concepts were designed by the Swift Printing Team Members.

ArtPrize 2023: A Citywide Collaboration

This year, ArtPrize has undergone a transformation with a new format that reflects the city's commitment to celebrating art. In 2023, ArtPrize is now a dynamic partnership between the City of Grand Rapids, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI), and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. This collaborative approach promises to bring out the very best of ArtPrize.

The city's support, combined with the expertise of DGRI and the artistic acumen of Kendall College, has created an environment that fosters creativity and innovation. With this new format, ArtPrize is set to be a spectacular celebration of art, culture, and community.
