ArtPrize 2026 Is Coming West: Why This Year Feels Extra Special for Swift Printing

I have never exactly hidden my feelings about ArtPrize.

I love it.

Like, really love it.

I have planned outings around it, brought friends downtown for it, convinced Swift Printing to become a venue because of it, and I once planned my wedding date during ArtPrize because I knew Grand Rapids would be buzzing.

So yes, I may be a little biased.

But ArtPrize 2026 feels particularly exciting because the West Side is getting some serious love this year.

And as someone who has spent a whole lot of time talking about how wonderful Grand Rapids’ West Side is, I am here for it.

The 2026 ArtPrize ClubHouse Is Coming to Bridge Street

Probably the biggest West Side news this year is that the official ArtPrize ClubHouse will be located at 428 Bridge Street NW, right in the heart of the Bridge Street corridor.

That is a big deal.

The ClubHouse serves as a central hub for ArtPrize visitors, artists, venue managers, and volunteers. Traditionally, it is the kind of place where visitors can get information, find ArtPrize merchandise, participate in programming, grab refreshments, and figure out where they want to head next.

And this year, that hub will be on Bridge Street.

For years, I have encouraged people to cross the river during ArtPrize.

Now I might not have to work quite so hard at it. 😂

The official ArtPrize venue directory lists the ArtPrize ClubHouse at 428 Bridge St. NW, surrounded by a growing collection of participating West Side venues.

It feels like a pretty great moment for our neighborhood.

And 428 Bridge Street Has Another Chapter Coming

The ArtPrize ClubHouse is not the only exciting news for that address.

Crain’s Grand Rapids Business recently reported that Cattail, a new coastal Southern restaurant from James Beard-nominated chef Matt Millar, plans to take over the space after ArtPrize.

Millar is returning to Grand Rapids after more than a decade away, and the restaurant is expected to open next spring.

So in the span of one year, this space will help welcome hundreds of thousands of people into Grand Rapids for one of our biggest cultural events and then transition into another new destination for the Bridge Street corridor.

That is pretty darn exciting.

Bridge Street has changed tremendously over the years, but I think the best growth happens when we continue giving people reasons to walk the neighborhood, discover something new, eat somewhere local, shop somewhere local, and maybe stay a little longer than they originally planned.

ArtPrize does that incredibly well.

There Is A LOT of Art on the West Side This Year

If your ArtPrize routine has traditionally involved parking downtown, walking Monroe Center, checking out the museums, and heading home, this is the year to expand your loop.

The official 2026 venue list includes a great group of West Side stops.

Some of the participating venues include:

ArtPrize ClubHouse
428 Bridge St. NW

Swift Printing
404 Bridge St. NW

Bridge Street Market
405 Seward Ave. NW

Cellar Bird Books
415 Bridge St. NW

Fratelli’s Italian Kitchen
443 Bridge St. NW

Nonla Burger
449 Bridge St. NW

Bridge Street Bar
600 Bridge St. NW

Küsterer Brauhaus
642 Bridge St. NW

Bridge St Electric
812 Bridge St. NW

El Granjero Mexican Grill
950 Bridge St. NW

Firebird Bar GR
526 Stocking Ave. NW

West Grand Neighborhood Organization
754 Leonard St. NW

And that is not even the entire West Side list.

One of the best parts of ArtPrize is that art does not stay inside traditional galleries.

It ends up in bookstores.

Restaurants.

Print shops.

Bars.

Retail spaces.

Public spaces.

Places you may walk past every week without ever thinking of them as a gallery.

Then, for a few weeks, you see the same neighborhood completely differently.

That is the magic of ArtPrize.

Swift Printing Is All In Again

This year, Swift Printing is proud to be an ArtPrize vendor, sponsor, partner, and participating venue.

That combination feels incredibly natural for us.

See how ArtPrize was featured in Paper Matters magazine

Printing and art have always been closely connected. We spend our days working with designers, photographers, illustrators, marketers, artists, businesses, and creative people who are trying to turn something they imagined into something tangible.

Sometimes that means a business card.

Sometimes it is a direct-mail piece.

Sometimes it is a giant sign.

Sometimes it is an ArtPrize project.

And sometimes it is something we have never printed before and need to figure out together.

Those are usually my favorite projects.

ArtPrize celebrates experimentation and creativity, and that is also one of the reasons our team enjoys working with the organization so much.

We understand the joy, and occasionally the chaos, of taking an idea and making it real.

Cool facts from ArtPrize 2024

Swift Printing Is Also an Official ArtPrize Venue

Swift Printing is once again listed as a 2026 ArtPrize venue at 404 Bridge Street NW.

That means you can literally start your West Side ArtPrize experience at the ArtPrize ClubHouse and walk a few doors down to Swift.

Pretty convenient, huh?

And since we are a working commercial print shop, visiting Swift during ArtPrize gives people an opportunity to see art in a slightly different environment.

You are standing in a business where creativity gets turned into physical objects every single day.

I love that overlap.

Art does not need to live separately from business.

Creativity does not need to live separately from manufacturing.

At Swift, those things happen together.

The official ArtPrize entry directory already lists work being hosted at Swift Printing for 2026, including “Bait and Switch” by Sara Pearson.

I am excited to see everything come together.

Why ArtPrize Matters Beyond the Art

The art is obviously the star of the show. But I think ArtPrize does something equally important for Grand Rapids. It gets us moving around our own city.

How many times do we drive the same route?

Park in the same place?

Eat at the same restaurant?

Visit the same neighborhood?

ArtPrize disrupts that routine.

Suddenly you are walking down a street you have never explored. You step into a business you have driven past 50 times. You talk to an artist from another state or another country. You bring your children downtown and let them vote. You run into someone you have not seen in years.

That community piece is what keeps me coming back.

ArtPrize says it expects hundreds of thousands of visitors and distributes a combined $600,000 in prizes and grants to artists, curators, and educators. The competition includes both public voting and juried awards, giving regular visitors a direct role in deciding which work gets recognized.

That is pretty remarkable.

You do not need an art degree. You do not need to understand every installation. You are allowed to love something because you love it.

Or stare at something for three minutes and still have absolutely no idea what you are looking at. Also part of the fun. 😂

My Advice: Make the West Side Part of Your ArtPrize Day

Here is my completely unbiased advice:

Come West.

Start around the river.

Head toward Bridge Street.

Stop at the ArtPrize ClubHouse.

Visit Swift Printing.

Walk through Bridge Street Market.

Check out Cellar Bird Books.

Keep heading west.

See some art.

Grab lunch.

Have a beer.

Get coffee.

Buy something from a neighborhood business.

Then keep walking.

ArtPrize does not need to be tackled like a checklist.

Some of my favorite ArtPrize memories have very little to do with whether I saw the “right” pieces. They are about who I was with and where we ended up. That is what makes this event so special.

Why This Year Feels Different

There is something symbolic about putting the ArtPrize ClubHouse on Bridge Street. Grand Rapids is bigger than one downtown corridor. Our arts community is bigger than one district. And the West Side has become an important part of the way people experience this city. For those of us who have loved and invested in this neighborhood for a long time, it is really fun to see.

Swift Printing has called Bridge Street home for generations.

We have watched buildings change.

Restaurants open.

Businesses move in.

Businesses move out.

New neighbors arrive.

And through all of it, Bridge Street keeps evolving.

Now we get to welcome ArtPrize visitors right into the middle of it.

I cannot wait.

Come See Us at Swift Printing During ArtPrize

Swift Printing is located at 404 Bridge Street NW in Grand Rapids, just a few steps from the 2026 ArtPrize ClubHouse.

Come see the art.

Come check out the neighborhood.

Come peek inside a third-generation Grand Rapids print shop.

And please tell us what your favorite ArtPrize piece is this year.

I will absolutely want to know.

Because for a few weeks every fall, Grand Rapids becomes a little more creative, a little more walkable, a little more connected, and a whole lot more interesting.

And this year, I am especially excited that so much of that energy is coming West.

See you on Bridge Street!
