Cool Bridge Street History
404 Bridge N.W. The Oroiquis Building. Built in 1893, this structure has housed meat markets, grocery stores, a bakery, and a shoe store. The upper floors have been used as a rooming house and as a hotel. Swift Printing Company, owned by Walter & Amy Gutowski, Jr., has occupied the retail space on the ground floor of the building since 1954. (The Paper, July 6-12, 2000, p. 5.)

The crowning jewel: a nearly 1-acre parcel that Rockford Construction Co. assembled last month with the help of Grand Rapids City Commissioner and businessman Walt Gutowski Jr. for a yet-to-be-determined marquee project to serve as an inviting portal from downtown to the west side.

He took odd rewarding jobs to pay for his adventures and made the most of it. He was a Lobsterman in Maine, a Tuna slinger on the west coast and many more random positions in between. You’ll have to ask him about it…. But for now, let’s talk about him being back at Swift Printing.
